Winter Wonderland was established in December 2011. FDR initiated the holiday event to encourage folks in and around Framingham to shop locally by creating activities and attractions throughout the downtown. Volunteers, artists, community organizations and families in the past were invited to paint windows with a winter holiday theme. In 2013, Winter Wonderland grew to include a window decorating contest, specials and deals in retail businesses and restaurants, and a Wonderland Holiday Bazaar that ran from December 14th through the 24th.
In 2014, the FDR extended the Holiday Bazaar to run the entire month of December, and featured over 20 local artists and crafters! Local bluegrass bands Moonshine Alley and Always in Season made for a festive grand opening!

Transforming empty storefronts into pop-up shops and galleries.
Significance The event makes Downtown Framingham a destination to visit, shop and celebrate the holidays. It increases foot traffic and provides a festive nexus for the many communities that make up Greater Framingham. The Holiday Bazaar is also significant in that it takes place in a prominent empty storefront. In 2014, the Bazaar filled the space at 20 Union Avenue across from the Memorial Building. The Bazaar opened alongside the Town of Framingham tree-lighting ceremony, lighting a space that would have otherwise been dark and empty, and created less of an inviting atmosphere. Instead, throughout December, this gateway to Downtown Framingham was lively and festive, with shoppers, visitors, bluegrass and local coffee-lovers!
