Throughout 12 days, 280 people took to Facebook to demonstrate in real time that there is A LOT for everyone to do downtown  - from entertainment to eating to retail shopping!   This campaign put a bug in the ears of more residents and potential business owners.  This social media campaign demonstrates the power of grassroots activism.  We're indebted to our supporters, and we've added awesome new members, too.  You put your money where your heart is, and we've got a ton of great events, policy initiatives, and small business technical support to execute.  It brings us extreme pleasure to demonstrate these hard #facts, and we can see you're still so excited to continue supporting this community and our diverse cultural offerings!
It's official!  Downtown Framingham, Inc. has been selected as Mutual One's 2018 Checking for CharityMutualOne will donate $10 to Downtown Framingham, Inc. with the opening of each new personal or business checking account.  We're thrilled to receive this unique honor from our long-standing community partner that has committed to supporting our ongoing placemaking and public arts projects along with business-based events.
Policy Initiatives
Sidewalk Activation
Let's eat outside!  On February 13, we led a mutually enthusiastic meeting with the City's department leaders to create the municipal code and permitting regulations to facilitate sidewalk use by our great local businesses.  From enjoying the sunshine at a cafe table to displaying great wares for sale, we recognize the importance and value of making this goal an immediate reality.  After reviewing comparable examples from across the country, we understand what elements are best suited for our community.
Next steps:  the cross-cutting working group will help formulate the legal code and identify approved areas for cafe seating or display of wares.  A regulatory flowchart will be created along with templates for all required licenses and permits.
Public Art!

Kudos to everyone who responded to our January Downtown Digest call for mural renderings.  Murals can be painted or printed, supporting both traditional painting and graphic design.  We'd also like to thank CGI Properties and the MetroWest Community Federal Credit Union for expressing interest in this amazing initiative to create an even more vibrant area.   Renderings are due Friday, February 23rd.  Thanks again to MetroWest Art au Pair for spreading the word throughout the month!
Please contact us directly for specifics.

Our Downtown Framingham Business Coalition just wrapped its 2018 Marketing survey, exceeding our business response goal!  Now, we double down with Individual Business Consultations (IBCs).  DFI business members and businesses who complete our surveys will be rewarded with an in-depth market analysis and SWOT assessment accompanied by techniques to achieve valuable outcomes, including:
- technology integration
- gauge quality of customer service
- identify employee training opportunities
- define and refine vision and values

Shanleigh Reardon is a senior at Framingham State University and is a familiar face in our community, as she interned with us last summer.  In her part-time role, she remains flexible, responding rapidly to dynamic changes in planned design projects, business support, organizational member needs, and literally whatever must get done.  Shanleigh has a bright future ahead of her.  Shanleigh truly cares about the people of the community, and she is excited to ensure their needs are represented and preserved.   Her maturity and initative will ensure her  career is bright and adequately challenging.

Meet our Spring Intern

This January we will welcomed our new intern, Framingham State University student Kayllan Olicio. Kayllan is associate editor of The Gatepost, and she is also a social media stylist and senior sales associate at Gap.

In January, the MWRTA witnessed a 10% growth in parking demand, and a 5-fold increase in the number of daily sell-outs.

The best part of Friday night is peering into the rocking scene happening inside Pho Dakao as it illuminates Concord Street.  This jazz staple has won over many in our community who love to end their week here with friends and family.
Tropical Cafe's event production and marketing are stellar, successful examples of vibrant weekend fun.  This crowd is seriously engaged, as this team only contracts the hottest acts!  They also serve delicious food, too!

With construction underway at 75 Concord Street, the lot at Howard/Concord streets is no longer available for parking.  While most on-street parking spots along Concord and Hollis streets and Union Avenue are limited to 2 hours, there is unregulated parking along Howard Street and Park Street.  Public lots are available from Boris Court, near Auto Bright.  Some customer parking is available in the Fitts Lot and behind the Bullard Building.  We'll keep you appraised of more locations as they become available.
