Downtown Framingham, Inc. is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to serving both people and local businesses by creating the most vibrant, socially engaged, and innovative area outside Boston.

  • Fulfill the strategic merits of Transit-Oriented Development and Complete Streets policies, working directly with residents, government officials, and private stakeholders.

Economic Vitality

Downtown Framingham Business Coalition

Downtown Framingham Business Coalition

  • Downtown Framingham Business Coalition: build cross-collaborations and share resources for marketing, safety, and parking management.  Execute annual business climate survey and annual marketing survey.  

  • Provide paid promotions for our business members. 

  • Connect businesses to technical assistance provided by SCORE, MetroWest Chamber of Commerce, MetroWest Legal Services and the Retailers Association of Massachusetts.

  • Host business-based events, including the Taste of Downtown Framingham, quarterly community strolls, Cafe Crawl & Architecture Tour, Creative Economy & Cultural Tour, Downtown Artisan Market, and many more.  

  • Connect prospective businesses with local property owners to find the perfect space for their business.

  • Facilitate the sign and facade program, assisting businesses with new, eye-catching signs and supporting property owners with costly facade restoration. 



Summer Funder held at Skybokx 109 in Natick

  • Highlight achievements in business, arts, culture, faith-based missions, green/active space, design, and partnerships at the Annual Downtown Celebration.

  • Hold promotional events outside of Framingham in the MetroWest and Greater Boston to demonstrate our people-ready amenities and business-ready infrastructure.

  • Release the Downtown Digest 10 times per year, covering employment opportunities, business enhancements, facade improvements, and upcoming events.  

  • Grow our email listserv and social media base through results-driven partnerships and paid social media marketing.

  • Serve as a vendor at partner events throughout the year, reaching new audiences through in-person engagement.  

  • Recruit Downtown Ambassadors who enthusiastically promote our area and its amenities. 

  • Educate the public on the numerous evidence-based reasons to support our small businesses.  


Urban Design

Weekly Yoga on the Downtown Common has positively activated this public space!

  • Partner with organizations like Sudbury Valley Trustees, Bose, Bridges Together, Inc., AmeriCorps,  and local property owners to enhance green space for art and community gardens, including Pratt Street Community Garden.

  • Collaborate with the City of Framingham on placemaking projects, including the Downtown Plaza Project.

  • Support private property owners who offer public green space.

  • Assess and promote place-making activities in the ten active spaces in our area, along with public art and musical programming.

  • Collaborate with the Departments of Public Works, Health, and Police to demonstrate a healthy, viable area that is safe for all residents, including sidewalk design, crosswalks, lighting infrastructure, and public cameras.


Organizational Partnerships

Framingham State University students provide technical assistance through two group projects in their Business Writing Course.

  • Gather together a 15-member Board of Directors comprised of non-profit leaders, local merchants, higher-education leaders, artists, and other executive professionals.

  • Partner with local technical assistance partners, including MetroWest Legal Services, SCORE, and the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce to efficiently provide businesses assistance with marketing, legal services, financial literacy, and business plans.

  • Partner with local non-profits, including the Framingham History Center, Amazing Things Art Center, United Way of Tri-County, and Sudbury Valley Trustees to instill appreciation for our remarkable history while reinvigorating dedication to the present through place-making events and design opportunities.

  • Partner with MetroWest organizations to include MetroWest Visitors Bureau, Leadership MetroWest, MetroWest Chamber of Commerce, and the MetroWest Regional Transit Authority to both support our area through assessments and comparison while also linking and promoting our offerings throughout the Greater MetroWest.

  • Work collaboratively with Framingham Departments of Public Works, Police, Health, and Fire to ensure area needs are quickly met and both businesses and residents are fully supported.

  • Partner with institutions of higher learning, to include MassBay Community College and Framingham State University, to help facilitate community engagement and city planning opportunities for local students
